T
he Cal LeGrow Foundation is a private, not-for-profit
corporation. Established in 2012, the Foundation
was created to direct the charitable giving of Cal LeGrow
Insurance and its employees in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Our mission is to give back to the communities we serve by
funding and supporting local organizations that inspire and
impact youth. We are committed to reducing the barriers that
our youth must overcome in order to reach their full potential.
In the fall of 2015, The Cal LeGrow Foundation awarded
scholarships of $1,000 to three recipients: Michelle King,
Elizabeth Rowe, and Alice Hietala. We want to congratulate
these students for their high level of academic achievement
and their strong commitment to their community.
The Cal LeGrow Foundation is proud to support a wide
range of organizations offering valuable opportunities and
experiences to the youth of this province. To date, we have
awarded twenty-four groups over $115,000 in project grants
and scholarships. This year, a total of $10,226 of that was
distributed to the following organizations:
MADD Burin Peninsula
“Mock Crash – A Grad Party Gone Wrong”
In this performance by the drama troupe from Christ The
King High in Rushoon, a graduation ceremony ‘after-party’
was the focus. In the play, alcohol and drugs were a factor in
a car crash that claimed the lives of several grad students and
left many others injured. Students all over the Burin Peninsula
(600-700 students) were bussed to the venue and a live
broadcast of the performance was aired on Eastlink TV.
Buckmaster’s Circle Community Centre
Girl Empowerment Program
To address the gap in support for adolescent girls, the
Buckmaster’s Circle Community Centre created this program
to help girls develop healthier attitudes towards themselves
and others. Through explicit instructions and opportunities
for reflection, the program aims to provide guidance for girls
residing in the public housing community that surrounds the
centre.
Town of Meadows
Scoreboard for the Meadows Sports Complex
This project started with a concrete slab funded by the
Provincial Government. The rest was a labour of love by
many volunteers who constructed the playing surface, change
room, warming station, washrooms, and maintenance
room. Through this facility, the Town hopes to encourage
physical activity amoung residents of all ages, and to give
young people a forum in which to exert excess energy in a
positive way.
We encourage all students in
Newfoundland and Labrador, who
are registered in an accredited
post-secondary institution, to apply
for our scholarships. For more
information and to apply, visit
