Rising Sea Levels June 2014 | Page 11

SOLUTIONS

The most important step to slowing the speed of sea levels rising is to educate people on the subject, 46% of Americans believe that global warming and the rise in sea level aren't being caused by humans(12). The next step is to fund and encourage more research of how the things we do affect each individual ecosystem, pushing renewable energy costs far below oil and gas, government subsidies for environmental friendliness, reduce all greenhouse gas emissions (CO2, CH4, 22O, and all CFC's), a study by the NCAR, the Scripps Institution for Oceanogrophy, and Climate Central says that by reducing emissions of four specific pollutants (methane, tropospheric ozone, hydrofluorocarbons and black carbon) we could prevent the rate of sea level rise by approximately 25% to 50%.

MORE SOLUTIONS

In order to slow the melting of the glaciers, global warming needs to be immediately dealt with. The main cause of global warming is to severely lower the emission of gasses, such as CO2. A few ways people can lower CO2 emissions is to use fuel-efficient cars and/or drive less frequently (13). Convert to Environmentally friendly architecture and green forms of obtaining energy, such as solar, wind and methane digesters. A few other ways to help on a simpler level is to refuse, reduce, reuse, and recycle, as well as buying locally to avoid the pollution that comes with shipping (13).

“If we do not reduce greenhouse gases swiftly and substantially, some regions will have to seriously consider relocating significant numbers of people in the longer run,”- Jochen Hinkel
