2014 HIGH SCHOOL SPORT REPORT
2014 SACRED HEART COLLEGE SPORT RESULTS
“I must say a big thank you to the extended Sacred Heart community for welcoming me to
the College. As a learner I attended Marcellin College, a Marist Brother School in Melbourne,
Australia as well as having taught at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College in Alice Springs
(Central Australia). I was not sure what I was getting myself into when I arrived here at
Sacred Heart College but it was made very clear from the onset that the Marist family spirit
is alive and kicking no matter where you are in the world.

This year has seen some outstanding results across a number of sports. At our first sports
awards I conveyed the fact that we are extremely lucky here at Sacred Heart College to
have some of the best fields in the area, a beautiful pool and an indoor stadium. Facilities
that other local schools could only dream of. The school has played host to numerous
festivals and meets including U/13, U/15 and U/19 Inter-Catholic Soccer, Youth Soccer
Festival, U/19 Netball Inter-Catholic Tournament, Athletics meets, many swimming galas
and plenty of cricket, netball, basketball and hockey fixtures.
With the numerous sports offered at the college there have been plenty of trips/ meets and
tournaments, which have kept the learners extremely busy. These have ranged from the
Midmar Mile swim to the St John’s Basketball tournament to Inter-Catholic Cross Country
and everything in-between. As you will see from the list below Sacred Heart does not just
have a long list of cultural and social feats but is also a force to be reckoned with on the
sporting field.
St John’s U/19 Boys Basketball Tournament– 9th Place out of 32
Inter-Catholic “B League” Swimming Meet – 1st Place
U/19 Boys Soccer Waterstone College Festival – 3rd Place
U/16 Boys Soccer – Johannesburg Championship League Cup Premiers
U/13 Netball League – 1st Place
U/ 14 Netball League – 1st Place
U/ 16 Netball League – 1st Place
U/ 19 Netball League – 1st Place
Inter High “B league” Athletics Meet – 1st Overall
Inter-Catholic Athletics Meet – 2nd Overall
St Peters U/19 Boys Basketball Tournament – 2nd Place
U/16 Boys Basketball – Gauteng Schools Basketball Conference Premiers
A big thank-you to all of the learners that have been involved throughout the season (some
taking part in 3-4 sports throughout the year). To the staff who have managed and coached
the respective sports, the sports program would not be possible without you and the ground
staff who have been here on most weekends to prepare and make our facilities some of the
best in the area.
With our swimming, athletics and netball teams moving up to higher leagues and our cricket
& hockey teams entering new leagues I look forward to the year ahead and hope to see a
number of you on the sporting fields supporting our Sacred Heart College learners.
