CODE 6 ENVIROLEAD
FOR HAMPSHIRE COUNTY
COUNCIL RE-ROOF
SECTION FEATURE
T
hree Minsters House
in Winchester is the
headquarters of
Hampshire County
Council Architecture,
Design and Property Services. Full
approval was given to remove and
replace its entire roof covering and
substrate in order to overcome
problems with a number of leaks
attributed to design and installation
failures. As a result, 85 tonnes of
Code 6 Envirolead covering an area
of 1300m 2 was supplied, exclusively
by ALM, for installation and design by
Richardson Roofing.
The building’s crown flat roofs
also had performance issues and
benefitted from the installation of a
high performance single Bauder felt
roof system.
The project involved replacement
of lead on mansards, perimeter
details and gutters. On completion,
it was fully vetted on completion
by specialist lead consultant
Ian Harvey. This enabled the
project to qualify for the 25-year
Lead Contractors’ Association
insurance-backed and underwritten
guarantee. In addition it ensured
that the requirements of BS6915:2001
(Code of Practice for design and
construction of fully supported lead
sheet roof and wall coverings) had
been met. Due to the high quality of
workmanship, the project has been
entered for the prestigious 2018
Murdoch Award for outstanding
leadwork.
