Now for some specifics. When you have a cough and cold, we all sympathise, but we really do not need to see and share it all with you. Don’t cough or sneeze in peoples’ faces: use a clean tissue then throw it away. “Coughs and sneezes spread diseases” What about the time you get a bout of diarrhoea? Well, the most important thing here is to drink plenty of good clear fluids, and here is where hygiene comes in. Always wash your hands after using the toilet. This is good for you, and good for your family and friends. Hand washing is probably the most important thing of all to prevent these diseases spreading. It helps prevent gut upsets such as diarrhoea and vomiting, and also lots of other infections including colds, skin infections and eye infections. In the same way, try to avoid sharing towels with an infected person - why would you want to wipe their bugs all over your face? Of course, all the same rules apply even if you are not sick. 17
