Birth of the Mistress by Onyxx
If I could give this book 10 stars, I would but since I can only give it 5 stars, that’ s what I am going to give it. I absolutely loved this book from beginning to end. What made this book so appealing to me was the cover. They always say never judge a book by its cover yet the first thing that I did was judge it. Boy was I wrong about this story.
The book was told in each person’ s view, and that stood out the most. I enjoy reading books where you can hear what’ s going on from each person’ s view and not just the main character. The details that the author used helped me to visualize everything. I am a very visual person and to be able to read a book and see everything so vividly is a plus in my eyes. When I first read the title, I was a little upset because I thought it was going to be a cliché urban book. Meaning I thought that it was going to be some type of love triangle.
This book had my emotions all over the place as I read it. I cried along with the characters and laughed as they laughed. The flow of the book was steady throughout the whole book. That made reading it so much more enjoyable. I am picking up part two right now and I can wait to see what happens next. Awesome job!
His Dirty Little Secret by Jasmine Devonish
Amazing novel! The author did an excellent job with giving the readers a front row seat to this grimy, sexy, gut-punching, straight up street love-triangle … or shall I say love-SQUARE! I was able to enjoy every twist and turn of each character by being able to view the storyline from multiple perspectives. Each chapter was properly introduced by the one before, which had me eager to turn pages for hours. Because of this, I was definitely able to keep up with the story. It didn ' t even take long for the novel to become interesting because the author wasted no time to give us the meat and potatoes right there in the first chapter!
I felt as if the cover photo was appropriate and set the tone for what the novel was about. Now, I found it hard understanding if Morgan or Diamond was“ His Little Secret”. I also didn ' t know who was the individual man with the secret since there were clearly multiple secrets involved. I would ' ve named this novel“ Little Secrets”. Either way, the storyline itself made you not care about anything else but what was happening on those pages.
Actually seeing the characters as the story played out was not difficult at all since everyone was so vividly painted by the author except Rayshawn, who seemed to be one of the main characters. Since the other characters were described perfectly, I would have loved to have a mental picture of him as well because he turned out to be my favorite. The novel is definitely, without a
Safety in Lovers by Devian Nikei
Once I saw the cover, I was excited to peel back the pages of this book. From the cover and title, I felt the book was going to be about self-love and trying to find it in others. I was so wrong. This book was way deeper then what I could have imagined. Whenever I thought I had it all figured out, the author would give me another twist.
We have all read our fair share of books based on loved triangles but this one takes it to a deeper space and makes you question what love could be. Every character was their own entity and made you unsure of who to root for. The main character was such a strong, out spoken woman who I felt was very relatable to all women in some fashion. From the sideline, we all think we know what we would do in a situation but it’ s totally different once you are in that situation. The story flowed with grace until the end.
I felt like the book was coming to a nice close but in one chapter we skipped six years to come back then skip up two. That confused me a bit but the end message the author has for you was soul stirring. I truly enjoyed the book, the message and meaning. It was great to see love depicted in a different light. Nice work!
