There I am sitting in the co-pilot seat of a De’havilland Beaver as we squeeze between snow capped mountains looking at water everywhere and on the constant search for wildlife. The pilot points to his left as the plane drops in altitude, dipping its wing providing the single greatest birds-eye view of the Morraine River, our destination for today located in the Katmai National Park.

As we fly low and along the river, I am trying to keep count of the number of bears standing in the water and I simply lose track. All I can think of is we will be floating and fishing amongst them shortly. The hair begins to stand on the back of my neck and my heart races just a bit.
