Katmai is a world-renowned home to an extraordinary array of wildlife, most notably the Alaskan brown bear. Most people will travel to the Brooks Camp area to view the bears from developed platforms where most fly anglers to this region are in pursuit of another native species, the rainbow trout.

These beautiful rainbows can become quite large, in excess of 6-8 pounds by gorging on the flesh of the salmon and their eggs. This places fly anglers and bears in close proximity to one another for a wilderness fly fishing experience you can really only have in Alaska.

Intricate Bay Lodge is the newest built lodge structure in Alaska. Resting comfortably on the southern shore of Lake Iliamna, the outdoor deck providing one of the most spectacular views of the lake and daily sunsets, when it sets, of any lodge in the region.

The new structure comfortably welcomes groups of up to 12 anglers and boasts a hot tub overlooking the lake, bar and happy hour area as well as 2 story stone fireplace in the great room.

Brian Harry, the owner since 2011 has been improving the fishing program, purchasing new equipment and training staff to know some of the stunning waters within striking distance of the lodge by both boat and plane.

Weather can be a game changer at anytime so having a water based program helps ensure anglers are fishing every day should the planes be unable to fly. One of the other terrific rivers nearby is the Copper River, split into two sections by a stunning waterfall at the base of which the migrating sockeye salmon virtually turn the water red.
