This was great, thank you CSLP, thank you Peru!
Phil Andrew
So, since when was the United States a South American Nation?
In December, the CSLP were very kind to invite the United States of America together
with Spain and other nations to participate in the Tamas Ajan Cup and CSLP Open
Championship organized by the Peruvian Weightlifting Federation in Lima, Peru.
The USA sent a small but capable young team to compete in Lima, and also participated
in educational seminars and as guests of the CSLP Congress in Lima. Abby Raymond
and Dean Goad Jnr both won awards for the Best Under 15 athletes by Sinclair, while
our team took home some medals.
The USA team very much enjoyed the exceptionally well organized competition,
transportation and educational arrangements made by the CSLP, the schedule was
adjusted which allowed us to take our team after they had all competed to enjoy
some of the culture and history of Lima and the nation of Peru. At the young age of
team we sent to Lima, this was very much appreciated to give this unique opportunity
to these athletes away from the platform.
The quality of competition on the platform, and the organization off of it seems to be
increasing in the CSLP, and in particular in Peru. It was also the first time we had been
able to send a 15 & Under team anywhere in the Pan American region since 2013
when the Pan American Under 15 Championship was last held. This critical stage
of development requires some competitive opportunities and some opportunity
to mingle and converse with athletes of your same age and experience as yourself,
especially in a smaller sport community like Weightlifting.
On behalf of our whole team, we cannot thank the CSLP enough!
