"I spy with my little eyes" or "Simon says!" are popular games for children in
English-speaking countries, which can be used in their original form in the class
without any changes. These are, moreover, most often included by the authors in
the English textbooks for primary level. "The conversation chain," "I spy with my
little eyes," or "Simon says!" are activities based on a didactic game that exercises,
in an attractive and stimulating way, oral expression.
To this category are added the didactic adaptations after the well-known games of
"board games", which involve the use of a game table, a dice and pawns. The
game board can be easily conceived by the teacher as a worksheet, and the game
itself, with well-explained rules in advance, involves various types of verbal
interrelation.
In conclusion, the inclusion of games in English primary and secondary school
classes can increase their attractiveness and efficiency, provided they are adapted
to the age and pupils' interest on the one hand, and naturally included in lesson as
learning activities, not just as a means of attracting and sustaining interest, on the
other hand.
