One example of this was when the train took an unscheduled stop in the middle of nowhere , which we thought was strange , but later were told why . The engineer ( driver ) had spotted something on the track ahead . He stopped the train and it was discovered it was a dog which had been tied to the track , obviously meant to die . The dog was released , cleaned up and brought on board ; he was fed a couple of steaks and settled down for the night . The following morning we were told that one of the conductors had decided to adopt the dog and he was destined to spend the rest of his life on the conductor ’ s farm . What an event to restore your faith in human beings . The dog from then was called Tracks .
On reaching Seattle we had time to spare before we could check into our hotel and so we took a Duck ( amphibious vehicle ) ride which took us around Seattle and into the water at the harbour . This was yet again a trip not to be missed . Our ‘ captain ’ was a very funny guy who was keeping us entertained for the best part of an hour with his quips and variety of hats . He played very loud party music and had us singing the whole of the journey . The people of Seattle were obviously used to all this revelry , taking it all in their stride whilst acknowledging us with a wave and a cheery smile .

The on-board entertainment was good ; I especially liked the Shanghai Bar with its resident piano player who did requests . The food was great and healthy eating was readily available . In fact we both lost a little weight whilst we were away .
