RETAILERS
FORUM
WHAT A GREAT
month this is in our
industry. August is
one of the busiest months for wholesalers and retailers between
Attending the hottest
shows and starting to
gear up for both backto-school and the holiday
selling
season. Our
company sponsors 7 major
trade shows this month
and our staff will be busy
handing out this month’s
issue at our booths and at
the front entrances. The
trade show is an integral
part of your businesses success.
OUR magazines are available
at 55 trade shows during the year,
the largest circulation of any trade
magazine servicing the industry and
we’re proud to promote these shows
as a great resource for finding new
merchandise and suppliers to help
your business flourish.
WITH the summer half way gone,
now comes the time that strikes fear
into kids around the world: back-toschool.” Most retailers are up and
running with their displays and if
you’re not, you need to be. Reports
just in show that many big box stores
started the school selling season the
week after the schools just closed in
early July. Insane!
YOUR store needs an action
plan for both back-to-school and
the holiday sales season. Don’t
procrastinate with your
merchandise plans and
be a day late and a dollar
short. Careful planning
and shopping will get you
the best deals and the
hottest products.
WE will soon be coming
into our busiest seasons
so planning now will pay
off with greater profits.
MANY stores have
discounted their prices which have
cut into profit margins. A better idea
than deep discounting is to use your
overstocked goods as promotions.
But one, get one free or half off. Or
if you have too many of an item,
offer it free with every $50 or $100
purchase. You get the idea. Clean
out the inventory. If it has been on
the shelves for a year, it isn’t going
to sell. This is costing you money and
you need to move it.
SHOPPERS like free things. So,
offering premiums is a great way
to increase sales. The more the
shoppers buy, the more free things
they get. It’s like magic. And you’re
moving old stock, it’s costing you
only wholesale prices and not cash
out of the register. Be creative and
your business can prosper and sales
increase.
