NEW FACES IN THE ORCHESTRA
Following a national search and audition process, we are excited to welcome four new musicians to the orchestra!
CHRISTINE MURPHY
Christine Murphy, a graduate of Columbia University and Rice University’s
Shepherd School of Music, began her appointment as Assistant Principal Flute
in January 2019. Murphy is the 2010 winner of the National Symphony Orchestra
Summer Music Institute Concerto Competition and received the Dorothy W.
Woodruff Endowed Scholarship at Rice University from 2017 to 2018.
JEREMÍAS SERGIANI-VELÁZQUEZ
Jeremías Sergiani-Velázquez will begin his appointment as a member of the BSO
first violin section in the 2019-2020 season. He has most recently served as Guest
Concertmaster with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and as a member of the violin
section with the Grant Park Symphony. Sergiani-Velázquez received his Bachelor of
Music degree from the New England Conservatory and his Master of Music degree
from The Juilliard School. He is First Prizewinner of the 2013 Funación Hebraica
Competition in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
CHELSEA KIM
Chelsea Kim begins her appointment with the BSO second violin section in May 2019.
She earned her Bachelor Music degree from The Juilliard School and is currently
completing her Master of Music degree at Rice University. Kim is the 2013 recipient
of the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award, presented by NPR’s From the Top.
AGNES TSE
Agnes Tse currently performs with Symphony in C and has earned bachelor’s
and master’s degrees from The Juilliard School. Tse is the 2016 winner of the
Tanglewood Music Center’s Jules C. Reiner Violin Prize, and will begin her position
in the BSO’s second violin section starting in the 2019-2020 season.
