How do I qualify for permanent
residency?
You may qualify if your status is one of the following;
Temporary residence for four continuous years.
Temporary residence for two continuous years
if you are married to or have family ties with a
Mexican.
Temporary residence for four continuous years if
you have family ties or common-law relationship
with a Mexican or foreigner holding permanent
residency.
You are a direct descendant of a Mexican national.
Your child has Mexican citizenship.
Humanitarian issues.
Political asylee.
Refugee and complementary protection or for
t h e d e t e r m i n at i o n o f a s t at e l e s s p e r s o n .
Retiree or pensioner, who is financially solvent,
t h ro u g h s a v i n g s o r a m o n t h l y p e n s i o n .
By decision of the National Institute of Migration,
according to the points system established for this
purpose.
Who qualifies for family unity?
Parents of a permanent resident.
Spouse of a permanent resident or a Mexican will
be granted a temporary residency for two years, after
which they may obtain permanent resident status,
as long as the marriage bond remains
Common-law partner will be granted the status of
temporary resident for two years, after which they
may obtain the status of permanent resident.
Children of the permanent resident and the children
of the spouse or common-law partner, provided the
children are under their guardianship and not married.
Underage siblings of a permanent resident provided
they are under their guardianship.
