WHERE WILL

Q I BE BASED ?

Most people join a Reserves squadron or unit near to where they live . However , it may be that you want to pursue a role in the RAF Reserves that is not available at your local Reserves squadron and therefore you may need to travel to another squadron or unit . Some units recruit nationally and will pay for long distance travel within the UK .

Q WILL I

GET PAID ?
Yes . You get paid for every day or part day that you work as a Reservist and you get paid at a similar rate to your Regular colleagues . You will also receive a non-contributory pension and holiday pay . If mobilised both you and your employer may be eligible for financial support to ensure you suffer no loss of earnings and they can hire in temporary support to maintain your role .
WILL I NEED TO

Q DO ANYTHING BEFORE I JOIN ?

Your squadron recruiter will tell you everything you need to know about joining so nothing will come as a surprise . The main thing to think about is your fitness levels . You will complete a medical and then take a fitness test . The fitness levels you need to achieve can be found on the website or your squadron recruiter will be able to give you all the help and advice you need .

Q RAF RESERVES IS NOT FOR ME CAN I LEAVE ?

Yes , of course you can . We understand that the RAF Reserves may not be for everyone but we would ask that you let your squadron boss know why you want to leave just in case he / she can make adjustments that may enable you to stay .
