ON THE JOB
SENIOR AIRCRAFTWOMAN AMIRA RASHID * SOLICITOR / LOGISTICS MOVER
* Names of personnel have been changed to preserve their online identities
In my civilian role I am a solicitor within local government .
In the RAF Reserves I am a Logistics Mover based at 4624 Squadron at RAF Brize Norton . We are responsible for accepting , preparing and loading cargo and passengers for travel on RAF Air Transport , coalition and charter aircraft .
I have experienced things that I would not have done as a civilian in my normal job . There are many exciting challenges and opportunities available . I have learnt basic military skills , flown on different military aircraft and learnt a whole new trade ( and the complexities of it ) that is unrelated to my civilian job .
You meet people from all walks of life / different backgrounds and there is a sense of belonging . I have assisted on Operation Ruman – humanitarian aid to the Caribbean due to Hurricane Irma – and felt
I contributed to the aid relief .
