RESEARCH PROJECTS Monash University Collaborations A New Approach to Dengue Virus Infection: A Community-Based Study (DENGUE) TMB Platform, Monash University Malaysia This community-based study represents a collaboration between JCSMHS, the Segamat District Health Office and the Segamat Hospital. The study has attempted to identify the complex interaction of the dengue virus, its human hosts and the mosquito vectors. The study features a multi-disciplinary effort in entomology, virology, genetics, public health, social determinants and clinical practice. The methodology has been scaled up to a study funded by MOSTI and being undertaken in Shah Alam. Collaboration with the Ministry also resulted in the development of a new mobile device application for dengue surveillance. Field Methods in Anthropology and International Development Faculty of Arts, Monash University Australia SEACO hosts about 20 postgraduate students from Monash University Australia to undertake a full credit course by undertaking a series of research projects in SEACO. Working in four groups, the students undertook projects that mapped out the range of traditional healer and alternative practitioners that are consulted by the community, compiled ethnographic data on traditional practices for cardiovascular conditions, discussed sustainable livelihoods, health and wellbeing among residents in the FELDA settlement and discussed educational aspirations of parents for their children.
