Malaysian Knowledge Economy (MYKE) Dissemination Forum
To assess the state of knowledge intensity of Malaysian
firms, the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) embarked on a
project to assess the knowledge content in key economic
sectors in Malaysia. In 2003 EPU commissioned this
project, also known as Malaysia Knowledge Economy
(MYKE I), to Georgia Institute of Technology, US. It was
repeated again in 2007 (MYKE II). MYKE I focused on
examining the knowledge intensity of 1,891 firms in 18
sectors of the Malaysian economy, while MYKE II focused
on 21 industries covering 2,433 firms. In 2014, EPU
commissioned Monash University Malaysia to first build
upon the previous assessments by developing a more
robust model and informative model of the knowledge
intensity in the economy. In line with the previous two
studies, Monash Malaysia has successfully completed
the third study (MYKE III) to assess if the policies and
strategies implemented under the previous National Plans
were successful in improving knowledge intensity of
Malaysian firms.
