EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Malaysia is aiming to elevate the country to developed-nation status by 2020 through the
Economic Transformation Program (ETP) formulated in 2010. The targets of ETP will be
achieved through the implementation of 12 National Key Economic Areas (NKEAs). The research
foci of the Advanced Engineering Platform (AEP) aim to address the following NKEAs: 1)
Electrical and Electronics (through the Materials and Devices Cluster); 2) Oil, Gas and Energy
(through the Critical Resources Cluster); 3) Healthcare (through the Health Cluster); and 4)
Greater Kuala Lumpur/Klang Valley (The focus of all clusters under ESLP, Engineering for
Sustainable Living, aims to address this NKEA).
