Programs to help
Programs to help all students succeed
State and Federal Programs
Supplemental Programs provide kindergarten students
with opportunities to receive additional support in acquir-
ing the knowledge and skills they will need to achieve
proficiency at grade level.
The goal of the State and Federal Programs teachers
and paraprofessionals working with identified students
is to increase student academic success by providing
additional reading and/or math instruction and activities
that support district curriculum. Students receive this
academic assistance during the normal school day, either
in the regular classroom or in a special area.
Parents are often concerned when a teacher has suggest-
ed their child is in need of additional academic support in
kindergarten. Research has proven that additional sup-
port received early in a child’s school experience can give
children the boost they may need to increase learning and
build self-esteem and joy in the knowledge that they are
successful learners.

English Language program (EL)
Programs to help students learn English and experience
greater success in school are available at most schools
in the district. A student may be eligible to participate if he
or she first learned a language other than or in addition
to English, or if a language other than or in addition to
English is spoken in the home.
The Family Welcome Center assesses and identifies the
language level and academic needs of each English
learner.
For more information on EL programs, call the Family
Welcome Center at 763-433-4680. If a language other
than English is spoken in the home, please call the Family
Welcome Center to complete your child’s registration
process. Interpreters will be provided if needed.
