TAYLOR MAC
Headlining the Festival was American performance artist Taylor
Mac with the epic masterwork A 24-Decade History of Popular
Music.
In a year where the lives of the Australian LGBTIQ+
community were put under the spotlight for the purposes
of a damaging postal survey on same sex marriage, Taylor
Mac and Melbourne Festival brought people together in a
celebration of marginalised communities, storytelling and
popular music.
Over 150 local and international artists took part in
Taylor Mac’s exclusive Melbourne shows, clocking up
over 27 hours of performance across three special events,
including four six-hour marathons of staggering scale.
The work received universal critical acclaim and will
continue to inspire a generation of artists and audience
members.
