TOTAL ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE – INDUCED IMPACT
Melbourne Festival attracts local, state,
national and international visitors with
economic performance analysis estimating
the 2012 Melbourne Festival contributed
$29,952,290 to the Victorian economy.
By place of residence, the results show that:
•
Seven out of eight of festival attendees
were residents of Melbourne
contributing $15.5m to the Victorian
economy through
This was made up of:
•
Spend that would not have been made
had the 2012 Festival not been held;
•
Regional Victorians contributed
approximately $3m through spend
that would otherwise been made;
•
International attendees represented
1% of all festival attendees who
stayed in Melbourne for 7.5 nights (on
average) and contributed $2.5m to the
Victorian economy; and
•
Interstate residents represented
around 5% of attendees, who stayed
for approximately 4.3 nights and
contributed around
•
$8.5m to the Victorian economy.
•
Close to $13.4m in meals, food and
drinks, throughout the duration of the
festival;
•
Around $2.46m in ticket sales;
•
Just under $3.7m in transportation;
•
$3.4m in accommodation for those
who came to and stayed in Melbourne
primarily for the 2012 Festival or
extended a stay because of the 2012
Festival; and
•
More than $7m in other
entertainment, personal services, and
any other expenditure.
