1.3.30 “ SCOPE OF PRACTICE ” means the authorization granted to a Category III practitioner by the CEO to perform certain clinical activities and functions under the supervision of , or in collaboration with , a Supervising Physician .
1.3.31 “ SPECIAL NOTICE ” means hand delivery , email ( return receipt requested ), certified mail ( return receipt requested ), or overnight delivery service providing receipt .
1.3.32 “ SPECIAL PRIVILEGES OR NON-CORE PRIVILEGES ” means privileges that fall outside of the core privileges for a given specialty , which require additional education , training , and / or experience beyond that required for core privileges in order to demonstrate competence .
1.3.33 “ SPONSORING PHYSICIAN ” means a Medical Staff member ( MD / DO , DPM , or DDS ) with appropriate privileges who administratively sponsors and provides oversight of appointment , care , treatment , and services provided by an authorized Advanced Practice Provider .
1.3.34 “ SUPERVISING PHYSICIAN ” means a qualified and appropriate-privileged Medical Staff member ( MD / DO , DPM , or DDS ) who may or may not act as the primary physician that has overall responsibility for the care rendered by the Advanced Practice Provider , but who is providing personal , direct or indirect ( general ) supervision of specific care , treatment or services .
1.3.35 “ SUPERVISION ” means the collaboration , direction , observation , or guidance of a Category II practitioner or a Category III practitioner as a qualified and appropriately privileged Supervising Physician , when a delegated task or procedure is performed . “ Personal ” supervision means a physician is physically present in the care setting ( e . g ., patient room ) to observe and control the care provided . “ Direct ” supervision means a physician is physically present in the facility and is immediately available to furnish collaboration and direction but is not required to be present in the room . “ In-Direct ”, or general supervision , means that a physician is not physically present in the facility , but is immediately available by electronic means to furnish collaboration and direction . In some circumstances , pre‐procedure supervisor consultation is required and may be done by telephone . The requisite level of supervision ( personal , direct , or in-direct ) shall be determined at the time each APP or DP is credentialed and shall be consistent with any applicable written supervision or collaboration agreement which may exist .
1.3.36 “ TELEMEDICINE ” means the exchange of medical information from one site to another via electronic communications for the purpose of providing patient care , treatment , and services .
1.3.37 “ UNASSIGNED PATIENT ” means any individual who comes to the Hospital for care and treatment who does not have an attending physician , or whose attending physician or designated alternate is unavailable to attend the patient , or who does not want the prior attending physician to provide him / her care while a patient at the Hospital .
