Section 3 .
Categories of the Medical Staff 3.1 The Active ( Voting ) Category
3.1.1 Qualifications
For initial appointment members of this category must have served on the Medical Staff as an Affiliate member and completed their initial FPPE requirements within one year . An Affiliate member will be recommended for advancement to Active staff as soon as the initial FPPE requirements have been successfully completed and submitted .
If after one year , the criteria above are not met or the member is not in good standing , then the member will be presented to the Credentials Committee for reconsideration of the member ’ s appointment and privileges .
For reappointment , the Active Staff shall consist of physicians , dentists , oral surgeons , and podiatrists who :

b . are involved in at least twelve ( 12 ) Patient / Service Encounters at Renown Health Hospitals during the individual ’ s current appointment term ; and
have expressed a willingness to contribute to the Medical Staff functions and / or demonstrated a commitment to the Medical Staff and Hospital through service on Hospital or Medical Staff committees or active participation in performance / quality improvement functions .
If an Active Staff member is not able to satisfy the Patient / Service Encounters requirement , the Active Staff member must demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Credentials Committee at the time of reappointment that his / her practice patterns have or will change such as to meet the Patient / Service Encounters requirement , or that he / she has a compelling reason to maintain clinical privileges . Otherwise , the Credentials Committee will assign him / her to the most appropriate category that best reflects the relationship to the Medical Staff and Hospital or determine whether privileges should be removed .
3.1.2 Prerogatives Members of this category may : a .
b .
c . attend Medical Staff , Department , and Section meetings of which he / she is a member and any Medical Staff or hospital education programs ;
vote on all matters presented by the Medical Staff , Department , Section , and committee ( s ) to which the member is assigned ; and
hold office and sit on or be the chair of any committee in accordance with any qualifying criteria set forth elsewhere in the Medical Staff Bylaws or Medical Staff policies .
