Treatment for a Hemorrhagic Stroke

The treatment for this stroke might be different based on the cause of the stroke.
Caused by an Aneurysm
Coiling: During this procedure, doctors insert a catheter usually through the groin and place coils in the aneurysm to prevent it from bleeding.
Clipping: Doctors will open the skull during this procedure to place clips on the aneurysm. This prevents the aneurysm from bleeding or re-bleeding.
Other Surgical Procedures
Craniotomy: In cases of a large bleed, this surgical procedure can be done. A doctor removes part of a skull, treat the bleed, then replaces the piece of skull.
Craniectomy: In more severe cases, doctors remove a piece of the skull but do not replace the skull to allow room for the brain to swell.
Extra-ventricular Drain: Depending on the location of the bleeding, doctors might place a drain in a part of your brain. This drain helps remove extra fluid and blood in your brain and can help reduce the pressure in your brain.
Be sure to wear any medical equipment( i. e., helmet) as instructed, and keep your incision site clean after any surgical procedures.
