A New Era of Pediatric Care
Renown Health officially designated as a Children’ s Hospital, opening Baby & Family Suites for labor and delivery, the William N. Pennington Nursery, and launching the region’ s first 24 / 7 Children’ s ER.

Children ' s Healing Garden Opens
The John & Sue Dermody Children ' s Healing Garden had its grand opening, providing a tranquil space for young patients and families.
Expansion of Pediatric Critical Care
The new Pediatric Patient Floor and Wilbur D. May Pediatric Intensive Care Unit opened, expanding critical care for young patients.
Children’ s Imaging Center Opens
Thanks to a generous donation, the David & Judy Hess Children’ s Imaging Center opened, offering child-friendly imaging for more accurate diagnoses.

Building a Pediatric Partnership
The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine and Renown Health partnered to enhance Renown Children’ s Hospital, planning a Pediatric Residency Program.
2019
Children’ s Infusion Center Opens
Providing specialized outpatient care for children requiring infusion therapies.
2016
Expanding Pediatric Specialist Team
A generous grant from the William N. Pennington Foundation enabled the recruitment of over 15 pediatric specialists, reducing the need to refer children out of the region from 30 % to just 3 %.

Joining the Children’ s Oncology Group
Renown Children’ s Hospital joined the Children’ s Oncology Group, bringing clinical trials to local children with cancer.
Established the Renown Children’ s Hospital Endowment
Thanks to a generous donation from the Wilbur D. May Foundation, the Renown Children’ s Hospital Endowment was established to ensure long-term support for specialized pediatric programs and services.
Opening the New NICU & PICU
The grand opening of the state-of-the-art Wilbur D. May NICU & PICU on the fifth floor of the Tahoe Tower added more bassinets and private rooms, expanding capacity.

Level II Pediatric Trauma Accreditation
Renown Children’ s Hospital earned Level II Pediatric Trauma Center designation, increasing our ability to provide advanced, life-saving care for children in critical situations.
Opening Sophie’ s Place
A dedicated space for evidence-based music therapy, Sophie’ s Place provides healing and support for young patients.
Launching the Pediatric Residency Program
In partnership with the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, Renown launched its Pediatric Residency Program, training the next generation of pediatric doctors to serve our community.
