The Need for Pediatric Care is Growing— Fast
Renown Children’ s Hospital has made incredible progress, but the health challenges facing kids in northern Nevada are real— and they’ re growing. As the only children’ s hospital between Sacramento and Salt Lake City, we see patients across our 100,000 square-mile reach.
Children make up 20.8 % of Washoe County’ s population,* and every day, more families turn to us for care. We don’ t take that responsibility lightly.
Every three years, Renown Health conducts research to determine the major health issues and challenges facing our communities. The results help us plan ahead and focus resources where they’ re needed most.
Here are the four most urgent challenges facing our community:*
Access to Healthcare
Our region needs more pediatric specialists and facilities to meet the growing demand.
Maternal and Child Health
Our community faces growing challenges in supporting high-risk pregnancies, low birthweights, and early interventions for children.
Mental Health
Anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns are becoming more common among children.
Specialized Care
More children face chronic, rare, and complex conditions, increasing the need for pediatric specialties close to home.
