CREATE A FOCAL POINT
Design your kitchen to offer a visually appealing focal point . This will be the first thing people notice when they walk into the home . For this project , the gas range and statement canopy became the focal point . In the old kitchen , the canopy was above the island , which just didn ’ t make sense for the homeowner . The design also added a pot filler above the stove , which is super functional , and an added feature on many homeowners ’ wish list these days .
MIX YOUR METALS
In the original design concept for this space , the designer had selected all gold hardware . While the homeowner loved the hardware , her husband wasn ’ t sold on the all gold look . There are no set rules on working exclusively with one metal for hardware — as long as you mix the metals cohesively , it works ! In this kitchen , brass and gold finishings co-exist beautifully with light fixtures in chrome for a finished look that made both of them happy .
WASTED FUNCTIONS
Just because a feature seems like a good idea , doesn ’ t mean that it will be . Think carefully about what you will actually use ! In this kitchen , a bench that was never used was replaced with a set of drawers , a beverage fridge , and an appliance garage ! This made better use of the space and offered a more ideal flow . Because it is located close to the living room , this also makes it easily accessible for drinks ! The previous bench did offer additional seating but since it was not being used , the space
