DESIGNER Belynda Chen l PHOTOGRAPHY Heidi Lau
Designer Belynda Chen created a clean and bright update for this modern country kitchen , and did a simple refresh for the connected living room . The homeowners had lived in the home for 5 years and had done their best to work with the old layout but it just wasn ’ t functional for their lifestyle . They were ready for an update that would be more their style , offer total functionality , increase storage and feel cohesive with the rest of their home . With a huge extended family , the homeowners wanted the kitchen to be the gathering center of the home , where they could invite friends and family over and entertain to their heart ’ s content ! This was achieved by creating a warm , inviting kitchen , using a white and neutral palette . The new stove and overhead canopy became the strong focal point of the room , anchoring this space , and balancing the extended island , for maximum seating and countertop function . The designer married gold and chrome accents with neutral furnishings to make the glossy white herringbone tiles pop ! The space is minimal yet bold , has an ambience of comfort , and is functional and elegant , all at the same time !
This project showcases a number of key principals that homeowners should consider when planning their kitchen design ! Here are a few design lessons you can take from this space !
