Judges confirmed for Heating & Renewables Awards
REI is delighted to announce the four judges who will join editor Paul Stephen on
the panel for this year’s Heating & Renewables Awards
Bill Wright (ECA), Dave Sowden (SEA) and Michael Harvey (HETAS) continue in their roles from
last year’s awards, whilst Richard Hughes-Lewis (NAPIT) is a new addition to the 2015 panel.
Readers will be able to enter 17 diverse categories from April 01 when nomination packs
become available for download at: heatingandrenewablesroadshow.co.uk/awards/.
The nomination period will close on June 30 to allow the judges to deliberate in July, and
shortlists to be announced prior to the awards ceremony itself on Thursday 10 September at The
Ricoh Arena, Coventry.
REI editor and panel chair, Paul Stephen, said: “I am delighted to be joined by four such
highly regarded and experienced judges.
“Last year saw the panel skilfully adjudicate on a record number of entries of a consistently
high standard, and I look forward to another rigorous judging process in the summer.”

B&ES launch business manifesto
Building blocks: President Andy
Sneyd launched the B&ES’s Business
Manifesto at a press briefing in January
The Building & Engineering Services Association (B&ES) has published its own Business Manifesto for
the next government in the run up to May’s general election.
B&ES president Andy Sneyd said that the iniquity of late payment, the elimination of waste from the
procurement process and maximising efficiency through the supply chain were key areas for the 2015-
2020 government to tackle during its five year term to strengthen the UK construction industry.
The manifesto also addresses the ‘perennial debate’ surrounding energy efficiency, emissions
reduction and the low-carbon economy.
He added: “It also highlights the growing importance of vocational education and training – at every
level of the workforce – in ensuring that we employ the required calibre, and the required number, of
highly skilled and highly motivated individuals.
“Given that as much as 60 percent of UK carbon emissions are from buildings, it follows that B&ES
members have a key part to play in working with their public and private sector clients in ensuring the
intelligent use of the technologies that are crucial to this process.”
Spreading the Effecta warmth
Biomass distributor Rainbow Heat & Power has launched a national campaign to increase
awareness of Swedish manufacturer Effecta and its range of biomass boilers.
With Ivar the Viking as the campaign’s mascot, Rainbow Heat & Power describe his mission
to be a very serious one – spreading brand awareness and encouraging suppliers, distributors and
installers to join the Effecta clan as partner companies.
Ivar has his own Twitter and Facebook profiles (see p44), and will be joining Rainbow Heat &
Power on the three peak challenge, with the team carrying a boiler the entire way round to raise
money for Rainbows Children’s Hospice – the company’s 2015 Charity of the Year.
