Sustainability Live to deliver renewables
showcase
Sustainability Live incorporating NEMEX and Energy
Recovery returns to the NEC Birmingham from 21 to
23 April 2015
With more than 100 expert speakers, plus the
latest technologies and solutions from the
leading renewables suppliers, Sustainability
Live is free to attend and designed to enable
those that take a day ‘off the tools’ to stay
ahead and network in the rapidly changing
world of microgeneration.
Practical workshops and seminars
The Sustainability Live free CPD workshops
and seminar theatres aim to address the huge
range of challenges and opportunities facing
renewables professionals, including installers.
Of particular interest for installers,
the Energy Recovery Theatre will offer a
busy three-day programme, focusing on
the latest technologies for driving on-site
energy generation. Sessions include the
‘Energy Recovery technology pitch’, where
four organisations pitch their latest game
changing technologies. The panel session,
‘From feedstock to fuel: what technology wins
out’, will explore the changing face of energy
recovery.
The leading UK exhibition for energy
recovery technologies and services, Energy
Recovery (part of Sustainability Live) will
feature more than 30 exhibitors from across the
energy-from-waste sector, including specialists
in advanced thermal treatment technology,
anaerobic digestion, combined heat and power,
biogas and biofuel products.
Amanda Barnes, chief executive at
Sustainability Live organiser Faversham House,
said: “This year Sustainability Live will offer
renewables professionals the opportunity
to access all of the practical and operational
support they need under one roof.
“For return visitors, this year’s show will
also offer plenty of new features, including the
Sustainability Live Conference, four new Topic
Trails, and the cutting edge Innovation Zone,
which showcases 16 emerging technologies in
the trial stages of development.”

UK solar passes 5GW milestone
Reading this magazine counts towards
EnergyCPD hours
Official figures published by DECC in January show that solar electricity generated in the UK almost
doubled in 2014 from 2.8GW to 5GW of capacity.
This is enough power to supply the equivalent of 1.5m homes whilst the UK now boasts over
650,000 individual installations.
Paul Barwell, CEO of the Solar Trade Association, said: “This milestone achievement is testament
to the hard work of Britain’s several thousand solar businesses, almost of all of them small and
medium sized companies, who are all at the forefront of a real solar transformation as the technology
steadily becomes one of the cheapest sources of clean, home-grown power.
“We are now well underway to a million solar installations, of all shapes and sizes, across the
country. This is a world class achievement and something the coalition government can be proud of.”
He added: “Solar could by 2020 be cost competitive with gas and no longer need any kind of
government support at all on homes and commercial roofs. But we will only reach that point if the
next government provides a stable policy framework and a level playing field with other technologies.”
