Horry County Museum seeks to preserve history
The Horry County Museum , located on the corner of Ninth Avenue and Main Street in Conway , offers visitors a variety of exhibits and programming relating to the history , natural history , and Native American history of Horry County .
In addition to the main location in Downtown Conway , the Museum also offers free outreach exhibits and programming for a variety of ages throughout the county .
The museum was established in 1979 , and moved into the renovated 1905 Burroughs School on Main Street in 2014 .
A highlight of the move was the installation of a 2,500-gallon freshwater aquarium featured on the hit show “ Tanked ” on Animal Planet .
A 600-seat auditorium allows for weekly programming , including free documentaries and various music and speakers throughout the year . An upstairs classroom also provides a place for children ’ s programs and students on field trips to have a hands on opportunity to learn about the unique history of Horry County .
