Conway ’ s Early College High School with the best district scores among high schools .
In 2017 , ECHS was awarded as a Blue Ribbon school by U . S . Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos . At the time , DeVos ’ announcement said that ECHS was one of only 341 schools in the nation to be recognized that year .
Ocean Bay Elementary was honored with the Blue Ribbon designation in 2019 , and Ocean Drive Elementary received the same honor in 2020 . St . James Elementary was awarded the honor in 2022 .

Technology and Academics , the Horry County Virtual School , charter schools and an alternative school are also part of the comprehensive program designed to give students choices about the focus and intensity of their studies .
The charter schools include Bridgewater Academy , the Palmetto Academy of Learning and Success ( PALS ), the Academy of Hope , and the Palmetto Academy for Learning Motorsports ( PALM ).
A charter high school , not associated with Horry County Schools , is the Coastal Leadership Academy in Myrtle Beach . It is run through the S . C . Public Charter School District .
Horry County Schools also recently was renewed for its Cognia accreditation , marking 20 years since the initial achievement originally granted in 2002 .
Cognia is a nonprofit improvement organization that provides quality assurance for schools , school districts , and education service providers .
Horry County offers school choice where students are allowed to go to any school in the county if the district approves the move , as long as the school isn ’ t close to maximum capacity and if students can provide their own transportation to and from school . At the schools , parents will need valid birth certificates , proof of immunizations and documentation of Horry County residency . A Social Security number is requested as well .
