HCS among state ’ s largest school districts
The Horry County School District offers excellent opportunities for students of all ages and interests .
The district recently expanded STEM ( Science , Technology , Engineering and Math ) programming in all Horry County Schools , including Conway High School . Currently the number of students participating in STEM courses at Conway High School has more than doubled , from 200 to about 400 students .
The district says that it will continue to add more STEM offerings as interest grows , and its commitment to STEM is showcased during the HCS Technology Fair , where more than 3,000 students present tech-related projects to show their growing knowledge in the area .
Loris students who are considering careers in the medical field can get a taste of what it ’ s like to work in a hospital , thanks to partnerships with Horry-Georgetown
Technical College and McLeod Hospital .
At high schools in nearby Socastee and Aynor , the International Baccalaureate ( IB ) programs allow students to acquire world-class educations and prepare for their college careers , and award-winning music and arts programs at those schools offer students the chance to branch out .
In Carolina Forest , the arts take center stage . The Carolina Forest attendance area puts a special focus on fine arts in all of its schools . Elementary has choral programs ; middle schools have dance , art , music and theater ; and the high school offers a comprehensive fine arts curriculum .
Carolina Forest ’ s theater and show choir programs not only entertain , but also garner awards in national-level competitions .
