How to register to vote
You can register to vote in South Carolina in several convenient ways : mail , email , fax or in person .
A registration form can be downloaded at scvotes . gov / voters / register-to-vote . com and then returned by mail , fax or email .
You may also register to vote at the DMV , Armed Forces Recruiting Stations , Commission for the Blind , Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services , Department of Disabilities and Special Needs , Department of Health and Environmental Control , Department of Health and Human Services , Department of Social Services , Protection and Advocacy for People with Disabilities and Vocational Rehabilitation Department .
To vote , you have to register at least 30 days before the election . To vote by mail or in person , you need to provide a current , valid photo ID or a utility bill , bank statement , paycheck or government document showing your name and address .
Also , you must be a United States resident , 18 years old or older , a resident in the county and precinct where you are registering , and you must not be under a court order declaring you mentally incompetent , you must not be confined in a public prison because of the conviction of a crime , and you must never have been convicted or a felony or offense against the election laws ( or , if previously convicted , you must have served your entire sentence including probation or parole , or have received a pardon ).
South Carolina does not have registration by party and you may only vote in one party ’ s primary .
