BABY MAKER

Growing up I was never the “I want to get married and have babies” type. I loved kids…other people’s kids. My best-friend had a baby girl and asked me to be her godmother (a role which I take very seriously). And I was content with being someone’s god-mummy, an aunt-mummy…u get where this is going.

Until one day, the day after being engaged via skype she asked me to carry her babies. It sounded so romantic I promised to give it a thought….I didn’t give it a thought…I gave it my all…my fantasies poured themselves into this unborn future I was pregnant with in my head. That was in December 2008.

Fast forward to 2012, married and my wife (bless her soul!) reminded me that

the reason I’m so broody is because I promised to carry her babies one day. And the truth was that I was READY to carry our own babies.

We did online research and found a clinic in Sandton, made an appointment and we explained that we wanted a custom made baby with both our genes and we were advised on IVF where we could use my dear wife’s eggs. On the first appointment at the clinic we were with a nurse to sort out all the paperwork and, trust me, fertility treatment comes with a LOT of paperwork..shit load. What happens to your embryos in the event of your death or mental incapacitation…stuff like that. This is very annoying, theres no denying, but also remember that it takes lots of bits of paper to buy a car or a house too. It should take more for a life…I’m not
