THE RAILYARD RESTAURANT
Located in the Historic Downtown District, The Railyard
Restaurant is a prime location for enjoying a good meal
and charisma of Gillette. The Railyard location is steeped
in history that dates all the way back to the founda-
tion of the city of Gillette. In 1891, with the arrival of
the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, passage
west opened up the Powder River Basin and beyond to
everyone seeking a new life and adventure. Dodd House
Hotel opened in 1902 at the same location where the
Railyard now stands. In 1905 The Goings purchased the
Dodd House Hotel and from that day on it was known as
The Goings Hotel. The restaurant has gone under two
separate renovations. The first in 1999 where it opened
under the name of The Chop House. A second more
intensive renovation occured in 2016. They reopened
their doors in 2017 with a new name name and decor
that pays homage to Gillette’s railway history. Reclaimed
windows, doors and fixtures from the Goings Hotel
adorn the Santa Fe Room with in the restaurant. On
the night of May 26th from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. the local rock
band, “Natives of Nowhere,” will be the entertainment
for a street dance. A small $5.00 admission fee/cup
purchase will get you in where you can dance the night
away, purchase an old fashioned grilled hamburger, and
enjoy “happy hour” beverage prices. When you are
done dancing, catch the shuttle back to the Ramada
Plaza Inn, our host motel.
