Charges Strong was the runner and she came in
first, however, they lost a horse and by the time
they caught it they dropped into second. The fol-
lowing year their team did not have as much luck
and finish fourth. In 2016 it brought rule changes
and it was no longer a team but an individual that
competed all three legs. Canoeing, running the
treacherous 5 mile course up and down hills, and
riding 3 horses to win the first Women’s Ulti-
mate Warrior race as an individual. Again in 2017
it brought her the win in the Women’s Ultimate
Warrior Race as she easily finished the course in
breath-taking speed well ahead of the field.
She is planning to start training again this month
and will spend hours in the gym running and lifting
weights, on the basketball court, and slowly train-
ing her horses.
The 23-year old Charges Strong has a two-year
old daughter, Rory, that loves to help her feed the
horses. Autumn has followed in her families love of
racing and will encourage her daughter if she de-
sires to, her grandmother, Rosella Shane, was also a
racer and shares the love of the race.
Riding for Sage Creek Vet since 2014, Charges
Strong has developed a great fondness for the two
horses that have taken her to so many wins, Inga
and BC, and she fondly says BC is her special guy to
race. They have taken her to the pay window from
the very beginning when she started riding for
Leonard Roberts and Swede Harris. Charges Strong
can’t wait for the HNIRC 2018 race season to start
so she can be back on the two horses that carried
her to the 2017 Championship of Champions 2017
Maiden Race Champion.
