Cory Jackson, from Good Fish Lake Alberta, and backup man on the team is Richie Duquette from Mistawasis, Saskatchewan. TK Farrier Services Relay Team’s journey began at Onion Lake winning the Indian relay there where Head saw a poster about the 25th Grand World Indigenous Games. The team decided they would give it a shot and pulled in with three horses Friday afternoon winning their heat on Saturday. Tyson says, “Sunday came and I told the boys let’s get ‘er done, there’s cash to be made in the Gold Medal Round. We placed third to Young Money and Carlson Relay both seasoned teams from the United States. I told the boys, we went up against the world’s best teams, be proud of yourselves at least we went and danced the dance of a lifetime. Who else do you know from Canada to give these guys a run for their money. TK Farrier Services Relay Team did.” Thomas Many Guns was looking for a far- rier so Head agreed to put shoes on his horses and more horses just kept lining up during the races, that happens wherever he goes. The team placed sixth in Brocket, along the way tried to make new horses, but only one turned out but they didn’t let that slow them down. They went on to take Saddle Lake and Good Fish, placing second in Cold Lake. At Lethbridge they placed second to Young Money “we had them till the first turn on our second horse and he blew the turn and it gave Young Money the lead,” says Head. The team raced at six out of the seven events, missing one because they didn’t know about it or they would have been there too. When it came down to the final points TK Farrier Services Relay Team came on top to be the CIRRA Season Champions for 2017. What a successful year for a new team!!
