Black Days
As the week progressed we absolutely
hit the jackpot with the weather as
a third consecutive high pressure
system had ridged over the Great
Australian Bight. This always brings
screaming easterly winds, cobalt
water and low swell, which are the
three main ingredients to a black bite
on the Quobba coast.
I rotated between Cockatoo Point
and the Two Mile Reef all week and
bagged out on pelagic fin-fish seven
days straight. This was a bar-ee
run of biblical proportions and we
received more aerial strikes than
an Iraqi battlefield. There was one
morning I bagged out super early
and had three mackerel on the rocks
by 7:55am. Even the cobia showed up
in good numbers and James landed
his first chocolate log from Cockatoo
Point, which weighed around 12kg.
After this epic week the big 4m swells
rolled in and turned the water into
that horrible spearmint green colour
and it was time for me to head back
and dream about next season.
It was an awesome experience taking
these young grommets to Bar-ee
School and I hope they stick to the
sport and slay plenty of fish in the
future.
