Volunteering your time to serve your community is another great way give back. Examples would be serving a community meal, delivering meals to home bound neighbors & the elderly, even helping out at your local homeless or animal shelter are all great ways to give back. Check your community bulletin or city website for
opportunities to be of service.
Law enforcement, firefighters, paramedics and those who serve in the US Military serve our community daily, keep us all safe, but receive very little in return. This Christmas season, take a moment to thank them for all that they do. A great way to show your appreciation is to simply tell them. Whether you do it in person by visiting the local police precinct, fire station or recruiting office or in writing, it is a nice gesture and will be greatly appreciated. Another great way to say thank you is by sending letters and holiday cards. Organizations like AMillionThanks.org accept correspondence year round and have several drop- off sites around the country. If you include your email or mailing address so the lucky soldiers who receives your letter can write back to you.
So many people spend the holidays alone whether it’s due to illness or losing a loved one. The group most affected is the elderly. This is the perfect opportunity to spend quality time with them, to show them love and to let them know they have not been forgotten. Local church groups, nursing homes and rehab facilities are great places to start and in most cases have programs already in place where you can apply to become a companion. Giving someone your time and presence could be the ultimate gift this season.
Happy Holidays from the REDD family to yours and here’s to a prosperous New Year!
