GENERAL PLAN UPDATE
The City of Laguna Niguel is in the process of updating its General Plan , which serves as a guiding document for the City ’ s long-term growth and development . Every California city is required to have a General Plan . Most of Laguna Niguel ’ s current General Plan dates back to 1992 ( just after the City ’ s incorporation ) and a lot has changed since then . New housing developments have been built , business and industry needs are different , and the way people get around town has changed .
A General Plan update helps the community preserve and enhance its quality of life , guide economic growth , provide direction for housing decisions , clarify the decision-making processes of the City , promote positive changes for public health and wellness , protect open spaces and natural resources , and develop approaches to address wildfires and other natural hazards . Looking forward 20 years , how will state and regional trends impact life in Laguna Niguel ? What new technologies and innovations will change how people live , work , and play ? While the City cannot foresee what the future holds , City staff is preparing for it by updating the General Plan .
A successful General Plan will reflect the community ’ s vision and priorities , and we believe that your voice is vital to producing a plan that will reflect your vision for the City ’ s future . Laguna Niguel Citizen of the Year Award Nominations
The Laguna Niguel Citizen of the Year Committee will be accepting nominations from February 1 – March 15 , 2024 for the 2023 Laguna Niguel Citizen of the Year . This prestigious award was established in 1990 , as a joint project of Laguna Niguel service organizations , to recognize citizens who have demonstrated outstanding voluntary service to the community , making Laguna Niguel a better place to live and work .
The nominee must live and perform service in Laguna Niguel . The service performed must be strictly voluntary , may not be part of a paid or elected position and may include acts of heroism , humanitarianism , charitable and / or other outstanding service . Volunteer work can be within the last year or over a span of several years . Individuals and organizations throughout the community are encouraged to participate .
Nomination forms will be available from February 1 - March 15 at Laguna Niguel City Hall , Crown Valley Community Center , Sea Country Senior and Community Center , Laguna Niguel Family YMCA , and the Laguna Niguel Chamber of Commerce . The form can also be downloaded from the City ' s Website . Nomination forms must be submitted by Friday , March 15 in a sealed envelope sent to :
