COLLEGE ERA) 62 2001 Tarleton Texan Football LSC Champions / South Division Champions | Head Coach: Todd Whitten | Record: 10-3, LSC 8-1 After a decade without a championship and the transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II, Tarleton State earned its first Lone Star Conference Championship and division title in 2001 under head coach Todd Whitten in his second season at the helm. The Texans ended the regular season on a six-game winning streak to win the title and advance to the NCAA playoffs for the first time in school history. Tarleton defeated Chadron State (NE) 28-24 before falling to UC-Davis in the second round. 2002 Tarleton Texan Football LSC North Division Champions | Head Coach: Todd Whitten | Record: 9-2, LSC 6-2 Tarleton State followed up its first NCAA postseason run by claiming the LSC North Division championship with a 9-2 overall record and a 6-2 mark in Lone Star Conference play. Despite not qualifying for the NCAA postseason, the Texans would finish the regular season on a three-game winning streak with victories over West Texas A&M, Southwestern Oklahoma, and Central Oklahoma.
