In 1986, Tarleton State snapped an eight-year championship drought with a dominating season at 9-1-1 and a perfect 6-0 mark in conference play to earn the
school’s third TIAA championship - this time under head coach Bill Pringle in his second year at the helm. After going 1-1-1 over the first three game, Tarleton won the
final eight games of the season including a 40-38 win over Benedictine (KS) in the Sunflower Bowl in Winfield, Kansas to finish the season.

Under Pringle’s guidance, Tarleton State continued its complete dominance of the TIAA by posting its second straight unblemished league record to claim the TIAA
title for the second consecutive season and fourth time overall. The Texans advanced to the NAIA playoffs for the second time as a senior college and earned the
school’s first NAIA playoff win with a 38-26 victory over Bethany (KS) before falling to Baker (KS) in the next round in a 12-13 heartbreaker.
