12. Iowa State Fair

Not only will the nation's 2nd largest state fair draw over 1 million visitors per year, but it will bring in world class concerts to go with the countless foods on a stick. Stop by to see the world famous butter cow, or feel like a kid again on the midway rides and trying your luck at the fair games.

13. Drake Relays

Regarded as one of the top track and field events in the country, the Drake Relays annually bring in some of the world's most athletic humans. The 15,000-seat stadium at Drake University will be at capacity each day as the professional, collegiate and high school athletes run for personal bests. Not only is the meet something to behold, but this event acts as a second homecoming for the university meaning there are parties galore which mend perfect with the spring weather just hitting Iowa.

14. 80/35 Music Festival

This multi day festival, named after the two most prominent interstate highways which pass through Des Moines, draws an annual crowd of more than 30,000 fans to rock out at Western Gateway Park, just down the street from Des Moines University's campus. 80-35 will take place on July 4 and 5 and will bring in national touring acts along with several local talents.

15. Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival

This isn't your typical festival, but who needs typical when you are celebrating the existence of Bacon? It started in 2008 with a crowd of 200 people. Just 5 years later the event is capped at 8000 tickets and has been known to sell out in minutes. BE on the lookout for advertisement for this event as it will take place around the first of March each year, and is something you won't want to miss if you truly love bacon.
