Jeremy Rubin of Santa Maria , a city on California ’ s Central Coast , was working a corporate job at Verizon Wireless in 2015 when he decided to try to get into real estate . Though he had a hard time finding the right information as well as the money , he earned $ 6,500 with his first deal … and has dedicated his life to fixing and flipping houses as well as educating people who want to get into the industry .
Jeremy started selling cell phones after graduating high school in 2005 and rose to the rank of solutions manager .
“ I have a great sales background and was having a fantastic experience in a very wellrun corporate environment with one of the best of the best Fortune 500 companies ,” Jeremy recalled . “ I really couldn ' t have asked for more in a lot of ways . But I got to this point where I realized I couldn ' t see myself doing that for 40 years . And it wasn ' t my end goal or my passion . I ’ d always known I wanted to own a business of some sort , but I wasn ’ t sure what type .”
Jeremy started searching online and stumbled onto real estate as a business option .
“ YouTube is what kind of launched me into this ,” Jeremy said with a laugh . “ I just went down the YouTube rabbit hole of learning about the idea of wholesaling and assigning contracts .”
Making money from home or another location of his choice as well as earning based on his efforts really appealed to him , so he increased his research . He spent about six months educating himself about real estate and another six
months garnering his first deal … which he found by posting an ad on Craigslist . That first deal netted him $ 6,500 , which was more money than he had ever received in a single check from Verizon . He used that money to send out letters and postcards in hopes of finding more deals , especially in fixing and flipping houses .
However , he ran into challenges finding the funds because of his lack of experience in real estate . He ultimately prevailed in his first deal . The $ 44,000 he earned gave him the confidence he needed to give Verizon his two weeks ’ notice .
The challenges he experienced accessing funds as a beginner led him to start the Friendly Flipper Academy in 2017 … about 18 months after he left his job at Verizon .
" You need to look at the people who are successful doing what you want to do and realize that if they can do it , you can do it ."
