SERVICE WITH A
SMILE
Linda Jones - Remson
We encounter it far often. People who are
not joyful in their service of others. From
the sullen customer service representative
on the other end of your call, to the
waitress at your favorite eatery who greets
you with all the warmth and enthusiasm of
cold plate of spaghetti, we encounter folks
who have apparently lost the joy, the
enthusiasm for what it is they do. Now we
know, in this world especially, that it can be
difficult even painful, to face the day and
all its cares and responsibilities. There is no
one who is exempt from sadness and
worry. It is just the way things are. But to
work beyond your own personal day to day
struggles and attempt to serve another
with joy and with enthusiasm, is taking
servanthood to a whole exciting new level!
I recently attended a series of training
seminars with a well-known organization
that seeks to empower individuals with the
tools to navigate business and personal
relationships by using some very basic
principles. What I noticed about the
training as I continued to attend is that
showing up as your best self in the world
gives you “an edge”. Let’s decide to be
excited! And it’s
a choice that we can make. We can choose
to present ourselves with the kind of
positive energy that will infuse the
atmosphere and change the way people
feel!
The sour customer
service representative
may need to hear the
smile in your voice to
coax and expression of
joy to their face.
The waitress
who you are
even afraid to
ask for a glass
of water, may
need you to do
one simple
thing. Smile at
her.
