Helping others not only improves their lives but it can also improve yours. When you offer service to others it increases your self-esteem. In helping others there is often a new skill that is gained. Learning a new skill improves self-esteem. The higher a person’s self-esteem is the more they are likely to continue to want to be of service. When you help others you are building their self-esteem and giving them hope for a better tomorrow. Helping others has advantages for you and the people you are helping.

Helping others can increase your happiness. Helping others can help to occupy your mind and time. Helping others takes the focus off of your problems for a while. While your life challenges may be difficult it can be beneficial at times to realize that there is always someone worse off than you who would love to have your life. When seeing the misfortune of others while in service it challenges us to be grateful for our lives even with all of its challenges.

Each day we are bombarded by the trials and tribulations of life. We all have life challenges whether it is finding a new job, relationship issues, financial hardship, or some other barrier. It is easy to get wrapped up in our own problems and forget about everyone else. It is easy to block out the problems of the world and to feel as though we are the only ones with issues. Although your situations may be challenging and there are valid reasons for you to be concerned about your life, I challenge you to make time to help others.
