MOF: What is the biggest challenge that you are faced with as it pertains to writing the plays
and putting the productions together?
Brother Rory Sheriff: The biggest challenge hands down was funding. Writing and directing
plays is one thing but actually producing them is another beast in itself. So finding the funding
was tough for the first five years. I invested my own money and almost every time we performed
I took a financial lost. Can you imagine how tough it was to be writing checks to everyone and
not being able to pay yourself, even worse knowing that you are losing money? Not lucky
enough to pay yourself. Thank God for Grace.
MOF: Are there any projects that you are currently working on? What do you have on the
horizon? Any future projects that you would like to talk about?
Brother Rory Sheriff: We are currently in preproduction to perform my stage play Boys to
Baghdad at the Atlanta Black Theatre Festival Oct 5 th . I will be running two other original
works next year titled Speak Easy, and Henry.
MOF: Outside of your writing and your incredible work as a playwright what else can we find
you doing? Any hobbies?
Brother Rory Sheriff: Man I love football and tailgating, I am a self-proclaimed Grill Master. I
also love playing golf.
MOF: As you see the title of the magazine is Men of Faith Magazine. Being that there are some
pretty crazy things going on in society today and with all the challenges that men face, especially
men of color, what words of advice can you give any man that may be going through something
in their life right now? How do you manage when the going gets tough for you?
Brother Rory Sheriff: I remember where my strength comes from first and foremost. I remind
myself of who I am. The likeness of whom I am created. Plain and simple I pray I meditate and
I move.
