However, let's look a little deeper into some other reasons why we often choose to eat. Anxiety, stress, depression, sadness, and even boredom are all common reasons as to why people gravitate towards eating when it's really not necessary. We can call this emotional eating. I've been there countless times and so has just about everybody I know.

Here's another possibility as to why you may experience feelings of hunger. Consider that the food you're eating may be nutrient deficient. Sadly, our food supply is loaded with all kinds of products lacking essential nutrients. Some of the biggest culprits include sugars (especially fake sugars), chemicals, preservatives, and additives.

Take fake sugars, for example: your body does not recognize this as real food. Therefore, it doesn't know what to do with it and immediately stores a percentage of those calories as fat. Next, your pancreas will likely become overactive causing an insulin spike followed by an energy crash. Basically, your body cannot metabolize these fake sugars efficiently. They are nutrient deficient and will put you on the fast track to type 2 diabetes if eaten on a regular basis for too many years. .In addition, many of these fake sugars and chemicals will interrupt functioning of a very important hormone called leptin.

This is the hormone that tells your brain your stomach is full. When leptin is interrupted, your brain doesn't get the message and you continue to feel hungry. I'll give you an example: have you ever tried to eat just one Dorito? I rest my case.

So, how can we control this and regulate out eating? My recommendation to all of my clients is: adopt a "clean eating" dietary lifestyle. Basically, clean eating is about eating whole foods, or "real" foods — those that are un- or minimally processed, refined, and handled, making them as close to their natural form as possible.

Clean foods (whole foods) are nutrient dense foods that can be metabolized efficiently by your body. Eat clean foods and you will experience increased energy, decreased hunger cravings, and a transformation of your body.

There's an old saying: "you can't out exercise a bad diet." By changing your diet, you can change your life. Imagine how you will feel with this increased energy. One thing for sure is that when you adopt a healthy dietary lifestyle, you're going to have more energy. When you have more energy, it makes it a lot easier to "just get started!"
